- What does UEE31425 cover?
It covers competencies required for installation and pre-commissioning set-up of wired and wireless security systems in commercial, industrial premises.
- Are there prerequisites or entry requirements?
At present, there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
- Are there minimum work placement / practical hours required?
No minimum work placement hours are specified in the standard at this time.
- How are electives structured in UEE31425?
Total of 1060 weighting points: 640 core + 420 elective. Some electives must be chosen from certain groups (Group A / Group B).
- Is licensing required for security equipment work?
No specific licensing, legislative or certification requirements are currently mandated under UEE31425. However, other state or industry certification (e.g. for access control, CCTV) may apply.
- What job roles could this qualification lead to?
Roles such as Security Equipment Installation Technician, Security Equipment Tradesperson, or installer / technician in access control, alarm systems etc.
- Has UEE31425 replaced an earlier version?
Yes. UEE31425 replaced UEE31420 as of 30 July 2025. There is a transition period for current students to finish under the older version.
- What is included in core units?
Core units involve safety (WHS), use of drawings, diagrams, standard-based work, solving DC circuits, wiring, assembly, testing of wired/wireless security systems.
- How is assessment done?
Assessment is through a mix of theoretical (written) and practical tasks; set by the competency standard; must map to the unit requirements. (Standard RTO assessment practice) ─ the qualification document gives detailed unit assessment requirements.
- What happens if I don’t complete under UEE31420 by the transition deadline?
Students who have not completed UEE31420 by the deadline (28 July 2026) will be transitioned into UEE31425.
